F. Dean CopelandAssistant Chairman
F. Dean Copeland is Assistant Chairman of the Board; he retired from Unum Group, the largest disability insurance company in the U.S. in 2005 after eight years. He was Senior Executive Vice President and General Counsel and Chief Administrative Officer and served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel at Provident Companies, Inc. for two years before its merger with Unum Corporation. He was responsible for the following functions: law, human resources, corporate audit, facilities management, government relations, compliance, ethics and privacy. For 30 years prior to leaving private law firm practice, he was an associate and then partner at Alston & Bird LLP in Atlanta, GA and Washington, DC, practicing in the securities, corporate, mergers and acquisitions and financial institutions areas, and specializing in corporate governance and advising boards of directors. He served as Chair of the Corporate and Banking Section of the State Bar of Georgia and is a member of the American Law Institute. Prior to private practice, he served in the U.S. Army as Adjutant of The Judge Advocate General's School, Charlottesville, VA. He is a graduate of Yale Law School, University of Oxford, Oxford, England and University of Mississippi. Dean's permanent residence is in Atlanta, GA, and he also spends time in Alexandria, VA.
John L. Douglas
John L. Douglas is counsel in Davis Polk & Wardwell's Financial Institutions Group. He heads its Bank Regulatory Practice, focusing on bank restructuring and resolutions and other issues arising from the current banking and financial crisis. His practice spans complex transactions, difficult regulatory situations and complex litigation. He served as General Counsel of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation from 1987 until 1989, a period of unprecedented stress on the financial system. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Financial Services Volunteer Corps, a non-profit organization formed to assist former state-controlled economies develop banking and capital market systems. He has served on the Executive Committee of the Banking Law Section of the Federal Bar Association, and is a member of the Financial Markets Tribunal of the Dubai International Financial Center. He was recently named to the BTI consulting group's "Client All-Star Team", a group of 113 attorneys nationwide identified as delivering the best client service to Fortune 1000 clients. He received his undergraduate degree in Economics from Davidson College and his JD degree from the University of Georgia. John resides in New York City and Atlanta.
Keith O. CowanChairman
Keith O. Cowan is the former President of Strategic Planning and Corporate Initiatives of Sprint Nextel Corporation, a position he has held since July 2007. He previously was Executive Vice President of Genuine Parts Company from January to July 2007, prior to which he spent over ten years with BellSouth Corporation in various roles including Chief Planning and Development Officer, President - Marketing and Product Management and Chief Field Operations Officer. Prior to joining BellSouth, he was a partner at Alston & Bird LLP, where he worked from 1982 to 1996. He received his undergraduate degree in Economics and Political Science from University of North Carolina and his JD degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. Keith resides in Atlanta, GA and Reston, VA.
Dow N. Kirkpatrick II
Dow N. "Kip" Kirkpatrick II retired from Alston & Bird's Litigation and Trial Practice Group in December 2006. He has over 35 years of jury trial experience as lead trial counsel in state and federal courts throughout the U.S. He has extensive experience with the litigation of complex product liability and environmental cases, including a wide range of pharmaceutical and chemical product cases. He has also defended catastrophic personal injury cases and has experience in a wide variety of commercial disputes. He has been recognized in "The Best Lawyers in America" and as a "Georgia Super Lawyer". He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and has served on its Board of Governors. He has also been active during his legal career in the International Association of Defense Counsel, Defense Research Institute, the American Bar Association, the Atlanta Bar Association, the Lawyers Club of Atlanta and the Old War Horse Lawyers Club. He received his BA from Emory University and his JD degree from the University of Georgia School of Law. Prior to joining Alston & Bird LLP in 1972, he served as Law Clerk to the Honorable Newell Edenfield, United States District Judge for the Northern District of Georgia. Kip resides in Atlanta, GA.
A. Angela Lancaster
A. Angela Lancaster retired from Southern California Edison Company, where she worked as a regulatory economist and supervisor for the Federal regulatory group. Prior to Edison, she was with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission as Economic Advisor to the Chairman, with the Congressional Research Service in the Energy Section, with National Economic Research Associates as Assistant to the President and with the Federal Reserve, Board of Governors, as a researcher. She received her BA degree in Economics from Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA, and her MA degree in Economics from the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO.
Candice Hunter Corby
Candice Hunter Corby is the Chief Executive Officer, President and one of two female board members of Cobra Legal Solutions, LLC. (Cobra) Cobra is a legal technology services company with multiple locations in the United States and India. Candice helms Cobra from Austin, Texas, where she resides with her husband, Ken Corby and dog, Tiberius.
Candice is an advocate for the arts, eradicating homelessness, health, women's initiatives and diversity. To that end: she serves on the boards of Zach Theatre, Austin Opera, University of Texas at Austin, Butler School of Music Directors' Council, is a Co-Chair of the "I Am Waters Supermodel Luncheon" (hydrating the homeless) completed her first full marathon in Austin on February 14, 2016, and is a frequent speaker and mentor. Candice has been featured in outlets including: The Dallas Morning News, Fort Worth Star Telegram, Dailycandy.com, and the Austin Business Journal and is currently an executive feature in the 2015 fourth quarter issue of Profile Magazine.
Ms. Corby has been interviewed by the Harvard Business School Executive MBA program on "How Key Women Succeed", given speeches and moderated panel discussions at The University of Texas McCombs Executive MBA Program on "Championing Women in the Workplace" and recruited to participate on a panel for the Four Seasons Hotel – Austin's program on "Women in Leadership." Additionally, the Austin Business Journal recently recognized her as a 2015 Profiles in Power – Women of Influence in Central Texas finalist.
Candice received her bachelor's of science degree from the University of Arkansas – Little Rock and is a certified public accountant. She is an avid runner, enjoys travel, skiing, wine & cheese and spending time with her husband, Ken and furry child, Tiberius.
